Dear Reader,

Malaria is caused by Plasmodium parasites, not by viruses or bacteria. These parasites are transmitted to humans through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. There are several species of Plasmodium, with P. falciparum and P. vivax being the most common.

Ā To protect yourself while travelling to tropical areas, take preventive measures such as:

  • Using insect repellent
  • Wearing full-length protective clothingĀ
  • Sleeping under a mosquito net

Avoiding mosquito bites is crucial. Malaria presents with symptoms like fever with chills, weakness, bodyache, headache. If you experience any such symptoms during or upto 15 -20 days after returning from your trip, consult your doctor and get tested for malaria.Ā Ā Ā

I hope this information will help you stay safe from mosquito bites and malaria!

Wish you good health.
