Dandruff is a chronic condition and needs to be treated effectively. Using hair oil is not advisable if you have dandruff. An oily scalp promotes the growth of the fungus that causes dandruff. Dandruff itself does not usually result in increased hair fall. Hair fall can happen because of many other reasons such as poor diet or stress. It is also common with advancing age. A dermatologist can find the exact cause and treat it. To manage dandruff, the use of medicated shampoos is required. The shampoo can be used two or three times a week in the first few months. After that, it should be continued once a week to prevent any recurrence. Dandruff should be treated first, and then specific treatment for hair fall can be given. Application of hair oil should preferably be discontinued until dandruff is treated.
