Dandruff is a chronic condition affecting the scalp. It can be seen in people of all ages. The mainstay of treatment for dandruff is the use of shampoos containing ingredients such as ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione, ciclopirox olamine, selenium sulfide, and others. These ingredients are safe for use in children as well. The shampoo can be used one or two times a week. If the condition is more severe, additional treatment may be needed in the form of creams and lotions. If your son has had the condition for a long time, it's best to consult a dermatologist. It might be indicative of a condition known as seborrheic dermatitis that is common in children. The shampoo must not enter the eyes. If it accidentally comes in contact with the eyes, it is recommended that you rinse them well with water. Also, visit a doctor in case of any discomfort.
