Hi, I am 20-years-old, and I have had Type 1 diabetes for the last three years. I am taking insulin twice a day. Is there any permanent cure for this? If not, then can I get a disability certificate?
Type 1 diabetes is common at a young age. In fact, it is also known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes. Presently, there is no permanent cure for Type 1 diabetes. You have to take insulin as prescribed by your doctor lifelong, as this is basically supplementing the lack of insulin in the body. But yes, you can keep a check on your glucose levels by following a healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet. Food high in carbohydrates can raise your blood sugar level. So focus more on protein and healthy fat intake. The government is taking steps to include Type 1 diabetics to be able to get a disability certificate; however, it's not clear as to what states have this facility available as of now.
