Yes, in Type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune condition, the immune cells attack the healthy pancreatic cells and affect insulin production. Gene-editing therapy is a fairly new therapy. It removes the defective genes and adds normal genes to the body cells. Gene editing is being tried in Type 1 diabetes to remove the defective genes that are damaging the pancreatic cells. Also, it is being used to insert insulin-producing normal genes. This therapy is still in its infancy. It will take time and effort to develop successful gene-editing therapy for Type 1 diabetes. Gene-editing therapy can provide us with a cure for type 1 diabetes in the future, but it is a long way. Currently, there is no cure for the condition.
