I have Type 1 diabetes. I was earlier taking Lantus at night, but my doctor advised me to take it in the morning on my last appointment. Is there a best time of the day to take the Lantus injection?
Different types of insulins are needed in type 1 diabetes for 24-hour control of sugar. The choice of insulins in a patient is individualised according to the patientās needs. These days many types of insulins are used to treat Type 1 diabetes. Some of them are similar to natural insulins in their actions, while others (newer insulins) act either faster or slower than the natural insulin. Lantus is long-acting insulin and acts slowly. It is basal insulin that can be taken at any time of the day, regardless of the food intake. It is usually injected only once every day. But, taking the injection at the same time every day can be better. It would be best if you took Lantus injections exactly as advised by your doctor. Your doctor might have advised you to take Lantus injections in the morning instead of at night based on your sugar readings patterns. Reference: FDA Prescribing Information.
