While Type 1 diabetes is insulin-dependent diabetes that typically affects children, and people with Type 1 have to take insulin injections to make up for the lack of insulin, Type 2 diabetes is non-insulin-dependent diabetes and is very common in adults. In Type 1, the body's immune system destroys its own insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. It is relatively rare and genetically inherited. Type 2 is usually lifestyle driven. Although Type 2 and milder than Type 1, it can still cause serious health complications, especially in obese patients. Even though neither Type 1 nor Type 2 diabetes has a permanent cure, you can reverse Type 2 diabetes through lifestyle changes like a balanced diet and adequate exercise. Type 1 diabetes cannot be reversed. It can only be managed.
